KEM-PR-4840 is a desalting aid used to improve the performance of chemelectric desalters in refineries. It works by enhancing the dehydration efficiency of the vessel after wash water has been added.

Chemical Description:

KEM-PR-4840 is a blend of non-ionic surfactants from several different chemical classes, in an aromatic hydrocarbon base.

Product Application:

• Continuously inject KEM-PR-4840 desalting aid at a rate of 3-10 ppm based on the volume of crude oil to be desalted.
• Introduce KEM-PR-4840 as far ahead of the wash water addition point as practical; this will ensure adequate chemical dispersion into the hydrocarbon phase.
• The usual injection location is immediately after the crude charge pumps.
• Adequate wash water must be added (4-7% of crude throughput is the range recommended), and efficiently mixed into the crude.
• Primary and secondary wash water additions may be used if desired.

KEM-PR-4840 is recommended for use to reduce salt and water levels on single or double stage desalting equipment. KEM-PR-4840 is formulated to handle a wide range of crude types.

Materials Compatibility:

KEM-PR-4840 contains no organic halides, heavy metals or other substances known to be harmful to process equipment or refinery chemicals. KEM-PR-4840 is compatible with Teflon, Viton and most elastomeric seals. It may be stored in mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum or other metal containers.

Storage / Handling:

KEM-PR-4840 is a flammable liquid. Keep away from heat, sparks and open flames. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Wear suitable protective clothing and chemical safety goggles. In case of contact with the skin, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water. In case of eye contact, flush thoroughly with clear water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
